300 seat boundary redrawing: Seats increased in Gazipur, decreased in Bagerhat
The Election Commission (EC) has published a gazette redrawing the boundaries of 300 parliamentary seats for the 13th National Parliament elections. Of these, one seat has been increased in Gazipur and one seat has been reduced in Bagerhat.

Senior Secretary of the EC, Akhtar Ahmed, told Prothom Alo on Thursday evening that the gazette has been published redrawing the boundaries of 300 seats.
Earlier in the evening, an EC notification said that the boundaries of 300 parliamentary seats have been redrawn, with one seat in Gazipur increased to 6 and one in Bagerhat reduced to three. According to EC sources, the Election Commission’s specialized committee on delimitation has worked ahead of the 13th National Parliament elections. Then, the EC published the draft of the boundaries of 300 seats on July 30. The new draft retained the boundaries of 261 seats of the 12th Parliament, but made minor changes in 39 seats. However, among the changes, one seat has been increased in Gazipur and one seat has been reduced in Bagerhat.
The EC has given time till August 10 to file claims or objections regarding the boundaries of the parliamentary constituencies. EC Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed said that a total of 1,893 objections and recommendation applications have been received. As of August 10, 1,185 objections and 708 suggestions or recommendations have been received regarding 84 constituencies in 33 districts. Opinions have been received from both sides.
After that, the EC concluded the hearing on the claims, objections and applications regarding the boundaries of the proposed constituencies for four consecutive days from August 24 to 27. After that, the Commission’s Senior Secretary said that the final list will be published soon after reviewing it. Accordingly, the gazette of the redrawn boundaries was published today.
